Ted Williams: The best hitter to ever live

As a Red Sox fan I am a firm believer that Ted Williams is the greatest hitter of all time. His ability to hit for average and power as well as his control of the strike zone are some of the best of all time. His slash stats of .344/.482/.634 are amazing, his .482 one base percentage mark is the still the record. His power numbers may look a lot different if wouldn’t have served in the military for the majority of 5 seasons.

He has 521 career home runs but that number could have been much higher. From 1943-1945, 3 seasons, he was fighting in World War II. For the two seasons before and after he left he averaged 36 homers per season. Lets say he hits 36 each in those seasons then he adds another 108 homers to his total making it 629 homers.

From 1952-1953 Ted played 43 games hitting 14 homers, lets say he played 260 games he would have hit around 40 more homers bringing his total to 669 homers conservatively. Ted Williams is the best hitter but this math may have shown you why he could have broken the home run record long before Hammerin Hank. Thanks for reading.
