Fernando Tatis Jr.

This simplest of titles can describe what this blog is about. A baseball player named Fernando Tatis Jr. has taken the league by storm since debuting in 2019. After injuries as a rookie and a pandemic shortened 2020 season, we may finally see a full year of Tatis. So far in 2021 he is leading the National League in homeruns, OPS, and OPS+, he is also leading the Majors in slugging at .675. He has also stolen 13 bases to go along with his 22 homers. Other than a few unbelievable athletic plays his defense may be the one thing about his game that holds him back. He has made 15 errors in 52 games this year contributing to a .922 fielding percentage, which is terrible. But most times the good can outweigh the bad and that is the case with Tatis. His 450 foot homeruns on a regular basis are incredible to watch, and the Padres have one of the most electric ballparks in the league this year. If he can keep this up he’s on pace for a homer total in the high 50s, and his stolen base totals are on pace for high 30s. This gives him a chance at the first 40-40 season since Alfonso Soriano in 2006. If the Padres can bounce back from a rough road trip they have a real chance at contending in a strong National League. Tatis certainly has a very valid argument as the best shortstop in the MLB. Although Xander Bogaerts and Trevor Story may have something to say about that. The future of the MLB is in good hands and Tatis has a chance at being the face of the league for years to come.
