The Reason for the Eagles Struggles this Season Pt. 1

The Philadelphia Eagles have by no means have had a good season this year. 3-7-1 in the worst division of all time is simply just terrible. Most of the media has committed to blaming Carson Wentz. Don’t get me wrong Wentz has been abysmal but he is not the sole reason and in my opinion not the main reason. I have developed 3 main reaches of thought about why the Birds have really stunk it up this year. The first, Doug Pederson’s coaching and ability to lead the team and hold players accountable, Howie Roseman’s building of the team and how drafting has been executed since he got the job back in 2015. The third, the receivers ability to get open and create separation on offense. For once I cannot blame the defense for anything this year, they have played hard nosed and inspired football for once. Although the stats won’t show it I believe the defense is playing very well right now after stuffing the Seahawks on Monday night. This of course warrants a mention of D.K. Metcalf who torched Darius Slay, the Eagles only corner who has played well this season, for 177 yards. We really need to see this version of the Eagles defense this Sunday against the Packers if we want any chance at beating them. Now onto the horrors of Doug Pederson’s coaching. On a team where the offensive live has been so beat up and the receivers has been relatively un-able to get open why we are dropping back 57 times in a game and running it only 8 times. One of the reasons for Carsons struggles is that he gets sacked an average of 4.2 times a game. The Eagles happen to have one of the most efficient running backs in the NFL. Miles Sanders is behind only Nick Chubb and Kyler Murray in yards per carry and he carries the ball 6 times in a game we should have a chance in. Some of the reason for that is that we have often been behind by at least two scores for the majority of the games. We had to mount comebacks against the Steelers, Ravens, Rams, Browns, and Giants. We went 1-4 in those games and if Evan Engram didn’t develop Nelson Agholor syndrome with 2 minutes left in the fourth quarter, they would be 0-5. Just with those teams you can realized that the Eagles have had quite the schedule this year. They still have to play the Packers, Cardinals, Saints, and then they finish with 2 NFC east games which is a toss-up between all four teams. Thanks for reading, check back soon for part 2.
