Josh Donaldson: How a little known catcher turned into an MVP third basemen.

Josh Donaldson, and instantly recognizable face as one of the best players of the 2010s. He hit bombs and played third the A’s, Blue Jays, Braves, and now in 2020 for the Twins, after he signed a huge contract. In 2012 in his first season of legitimate playing time, he hit .241/.289/.398 with 9 homers and 33 RBI’s.

Whatever version of Josh Donaldson that was we haven’t seen it since. For the next two years in the middle of the A’s lineup he hit .277/.363/.477 with 28 homers and 98 RBI’s per 162. Then he signed with the Blue Jays and led them too an ALCS. He hit .285/.387/.559 with 43 homers and 114 RBI’s in those seasons including an MVP win in 2015 where every fan in Toronto was screaming his name by the end of the season.

Then in 2018 he was often injured and didn’t play much. Then in 2019 it was vintage Donaldson. He hit .259/.379/.521 with 37 homers and 94 RBI’s with 96 runs, and 100 walks for 6.0 WAR. He even got some MVP votes. Hopefully he can keep it up in the 2020 shortened season and make his big contract worth it for the Twins. Thanks for reading.
