Deion Sanders: A great football player and an interesting baseball player

Deion Sanders is one of the best NFL cornerbacks of all time, many people overrated Bo Jackson and forgot about Deion as a baseball player. His unbelievable speed from the NFL carried over as he 47 stolen bases per full season. But when he first broke into the MLB he could hit a little as well.

Even though he never played more than 100 games in any of these seasons from 1992-1995 he hit .282/.335/.428 and averaged 23 doubles 15 triples and 11 homers with 47 stolen bases per full season. His otherworldly athleticism gave him great defensive skills and he played crash and burn style, well if he was white it would have been called being scrappy but racism obviously existed during this time and this is one of its subtle forms.

A lesser known fact about Primtime was that he was originally drafted by the Royals, so for a time “Neon” Deion and Bo Jackson were in the same system and maybe could have came up together if the Yankees hadn’t have drafted him in 1988. Thanks for reading.
