Mookie Betts: The Second best player in baseball.

Right after the 2018 season, when Mookie Betts won the MVP, I read a quote in Baseball Prospectus that said, ” If Mike Trout is the undisputed best player in baseball then Mookie is the undisputed second best. This has come under some debate recently because of the emergence of Christian Yelich and Cody Bellinger but I still think Mookie is the second best.

His defense is superior to Bellinger and Yelich as he is capable of playing both right field and center with such familiarity and skill especially in Fenway Park, where he has played his entire career (he hasn’t played in Dodger Stadium yet because of Corona). His base stealing and power skills are elite and his contact and ability to get on base are high standard as well.

If he ever plays a game in Dodger Blue I wonder how he will adjust going from a big hitters park to a big pitchers park. There have been some rumors swirling that if the season gets cancelled Mookie will enter free agency and then sign back with the Red Sox. That would be one of the best trades in history as the Red Sox would get a major league ready outfielder, Alex Verdugo, and two good prospects in Jeter Downs and Connor Wong and dump David Prices salary. As a Red Sox fan I hope this happens. Thanks for reading.
