Albert Belle: Injuries Cost him pt. 3

Albert Belle was one of the best hitters of the 90s. Had it not been for the degenerate hip condition that cause him to retire at just age 33, he most likely would have made it to the Hall of Fame. In his career with the Indians, White Sox, and Orioles he hit .295/.369/.564 with 381 home runs and 1239 RBI’s in 1539 games played. His best years were from 1994-1998 where he hit .314/.393/.626 while averaging 119 runs, 48 doubles, 2 triples, 47 home runs, and 142 RBI’s per 162 games. He was a x5 all star and silver slugger and finished top 10 in the MVP voting 5 times as well.

I would say he could play at a near all star level for another 4 or 5 years. Conservatively I would say he would average 25-30 home runs a year gaining 100-150 home runs to his total bringing him very close to the 500 home run mark. Also he could average 150-175 hits a year gaining 600-775 hits getting him to past 2000 hits. He was a pretty abysmal defender but his hitting made him a great player. Another hump he would have to hurdle would be his “most hated” title. He was one of the most loathed players of his time, the Ducky Joe Medwick of the 90s. All in all had this hip injury never happened Bell had a good chance to get into the Hall. Thanks for reading.
